Growing up as a young birder, I hated that I could never find any cool birding stickers, patches, pins, or anything. Everything looked like it was designed for an older generation, who believed you had to dress like you were going on safari to be a birdwatcher--and that's because that stereotype was mostly true. Fast forward more than 20 years, and the birding demographic is changing. There are more young birders than ever, and birding isn't just thought of as a hobby for retirees now. But there is still one problem--those accessories I mentioned... they still suck.
But they don't have to suck. They can be fun, they can be cool, they can be timeless, and they can be used by young and old birders alike. That's why I created Berdnird Supply Co, to make birding accessories, art, and gear that doesn't look like it belongs in a dusty visitor center in some remote corner of North Dakota :)
Berdnird Supply Co aims to make products for the modern birder that are authentic and original. On top of being hip and fun, 10% of all sales will be donated to conservation efforts directly related to helping protect habitat for breeding and migratory birds!
But who am I?
My name is Tim Avery, and I'm a berdnird! I started birding in the early '90s, and suffice it to say, I didn't know a lot of young birders back then. What I did know was that any time I went birding at cool places like Cave Creek Canyon, Pawnee National Grasslands, Horicon Marsh, Sax-Zim Bog, etc, etc, etc, I could never find anything cool to take home with me. Here I am today hoping to change that, and create memorable, fun, and unique things for birders!
My design background includes a B.A in Studio Art with a focus on Graphic Design, and more than 13 years working in the software industry as a product designer. When not designing things, you might find me showing birders Flammulated Owls, Himalayan Snowcock, or Cassia Crossbill in the Mountain West. Or traveling with my family, making the most of the time we have on this rock!
Thanks for taking a moment to check out Berdnird, I hope you are able to find something Authentic & Original that you like!
